Welcome

Welcome to my webpage. Here you will find some personal data, information about my research and my scientific publications. In case you have further inquiries, do not hesitate to contact me.

Personal data

My name, Oriol, is pronounced /u.ɾiˈɔɫ/ or /o.ɾiˈɔɫ/. It derives from the Latin words aureolus/aureus (golden). That is why I share my name with this yellow bird.

Currently I am working as a postdoc researcher at the Bruno Kessler Foundation, in Trento, Italy. In short, this is the journey that have taken me here:
I was born and grew up in Barcelona. I decided to study Physics at the University of Barcelona. After my bachelor, I moved to Mallorca to pursue a master degree on Physics of Complex Systems at the Institute for Cross-Disciplinary Physics and Complex Systems (IFISC). I continued the research of my master thesis as a PhD student, at IFISC as well. Along this period, I worked under the supervision of Dr. José J. Ramasco and Prof. Maxi San Miguel on topics related to the dynamics and the collective phenomena of social and socio-technical systems. In November, 2018, I got to Trento to work in the Complex Multilayer Networks Lab (CoMuNe), lead by Dr. Manlio De Domenico.

Research interests

My scientific interests, and the research that I conduct, orbit around Complex Systems and Network Science (click here to know more).
In my research I frequently use techniques borrowed from statistical physics, stochastic processes and data analysis. A summarized list of interests comprises:

Besides this list, I have a bent on innovative interdisciplinary problems. Whenever possible, I try to orientate my research on those directions.
